“Kokoro"         is a Japanese word often translated to “heart” in English. Specifically, “kokoro” refers to the "core", “mind”, “soul”, and “spirit”. It signifies the true nature - the heart - of things.

It reflects my approach to my practice which aims to help bring about physical, mental, emotional, and energetic balance by addressing the heart of the issue as closely as possibly through my scope of practice. In addition to knowledge and practiced skill, I believe intention, intuition, positivity, and communication are essential to the success of any treatment.

My mission is to provide effective and comprehensive bodywork treatment plans that help my clients facilitate and harness their own healing energies towards the attainment of their health goals.

Parking: There are a handful of paid parking spaces directly in front of the building, and many more all throughout Fairhaven. There is one accessible parking spot kitty-corner from the building and one van-accessible parking spot one block east of South Bay Suites, in front of Village Books.

There is also free all-day parking in a large gravel lot just across the street from South Bay at the corner of Mill Avenue and 11th Street (map). To access this lot, go north on 11th Street and turn off to the left down the bumpy gravel driveway just before Fairhaven Bicycles. A set of stairs goes up from this lot to a sidewalk that leads right to South Bay.

Office: My office is located upstairs on the second floor. There is an elevator to the right as you enter the building for convenient accessibility. Contact me if you have any trouble getting to my office.

There is a bench just outside of my room, please wait there until my door is open and I’m ready to see you. Around the corner to the right from the sitting area are restrooms you may use.

In the office there is AC and heating, HEPA-grade air purification, seating, a place for your personal items, and a wide, cozy massage table with luxurious
Comfy brand sheets. A variety of bolsters and pillows are available to achieve maximum comfort and I use hypoallergenic massage oils, lotions, and linen detergent. Other emollients and essential oil options are available – ask me about my current selection if you are interested in different scents or consistencies.

If you have questions about Kokoro Massage’s facilities in general, as always, don’t hesitate to contact me.

The Sessions

At Kokoro Massage, client health, comfort, and safety are paramount. All massage therapy services are professional and sessions are conducted with the client’s greatest well-being in mind. We will communicate every step of the way to make for the most comfortable, safe, and effective Bowenwork® or massage therapy experience that is tailored to your health goals.

Before the first session, there will be a thorough intake process to talk about your health, define your goals for bodywork therapy, and determine the best course of treatment for you. You will receive and fill out an online health intake form, read Kokoro Massage’s policies and procedures, and sign an informed consent form. Prior to each session you will receive a questionnaire to help shape the course of treatment. You will also receive an optional follow-up questionnaire after the treatment so you can give thorough feedback.

After discussing your health and health goals, there will be an opportunity to use the restroom, which you may use at any time during the session of course, simply ask. Before the treatment begins, I will step out of the room to wash my hands, giving you time to dress down to your level of comfort and lie on the massage table between the sheets. I will knock and receive permission prior to re-entering the room after which I will begin the treatment session.

I believe communication is key to a successful bodywork session and will inform, check-in, and inquire when appropriate. I ask that you also communicate with me regarding your Bowenwork or massage therapy experience and how we can fine-tune it to your custom goals and needs. Every body is different, so do not be afraid to speak up about what you need: temperature change, music change or volume adjustment, different pillows/bolsters, softer or firmer pressure, etc. The session is for you.

You may choose to talk or not talk during the massage. Casual conversation is fine, but I will always be focused on the massage and your well-being and never discuss inappropriate or private matters. I will always use state-mandated draping that ensures the client's safety, comfort, and privacy and only expose the specific area being worked on. I will never massage the breast nipples or genitals and always receive permission from the client before working anywhere near these areas (like the adductors of the legs, psoas muscle, coccyx/tailbone, etc.).

When the session is over, I will step out of the room to wash my hands and give you time to come back to your body, refresh, hydrate, and get dressed. I will knock prior to re-entering the room or you may open the door, after which we will discuss the session, subsequent sessions if appropriate, and payment. You are welcome to pay prior to the session as well. Please
contact me if you have any questions regarding the treatment sessions.

Bodywork has long been a powerful modality of healing in my life. Not only has Bowenwork® and massage therapy helped me heal from trauma, sickness and injury, but they have also helped me understand the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and spirit and how regularly nurturing the balance between these elements can create a healthier, happier life.

When I began professional massage therapy training in 2013, I also began energywork and Bowenwork training which plays an important role in all of my sessions. I am a registered Bowenwork® practitioner and regularly expand my knowledge of bodywork through advanced training. I am a member of the
American Massage Therapy Association, American Bowen Academy and maintain my CPR, AED, and First Aid training and certification by the American Red Cross. Click here for my education and qualifications.

I grew up in Dallas, Texas and moved to Bellingham in 2005 to attend university. I have a background in East Asian studies and Japanese language (B.A., Western Washington University), and I have also studied Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. While my foreign language skills are rusty, I love studying languages, tutoring ESL, travelling, and exploring the world's different cultures, politics, and spiritual paths. I am very interested in how people live life, find joy, process trauma, deal with mental/physical illness and developmental issues, and heal from pain. The human experience is so incredible and diverse!

Some of my other hobbies include beginner rollerskating and piano, walks/hikes in nature, the beach, animals (especially cats), reading, music, board games and tabletop RPG's, movies and TV, fashion, eating yummy food, psychology, computers/technology, video games, dancing, swimming, yoga, and meditation.

I used to work part-time as a sales associate at Bellingham’s local sock shop, Cute But Crazy Socks (previously "ModSock") and still support them with all my heart. I highly recommend them for your sock and gift needs!

Kokoro Massage is proud to be an ASD, LGBTQIA+, woman, and Black-owned business in Bellingham, Washington.
